Presenter(s): Dorothy A. Sisk

This keynote will address how mindfulness strategies such as meditation, visualization and sensory awareness can help gifted students who struggle with social and emotional issues such as perfectionism and anxiety, with a cycle of stress rooted in nervousness, agitation and compulsive thoughts. Mindfulness is the practice of being consciously aware of the present moment and being mindful involves observing, participating and accepting each moment's experiences from a state of calmness and kindness. A study of mindfulness with high school gifted students will be shared as an example of applying mindfulness in an education setting.
