Assess to success
Workshop

Presenter(s): Eva Knechtelsdorfer

The workshop is held by three Austrian teachers from different school types: a pre-elementary class in an inclusive school for children with special needs, an all-day primary school and a high school with a focus on (highly) gifted pupils.
The focus of the workshop lies on assessment and its consequences for the support of (highly) gifted children. Which methods enhance and which inhibit the transformation from potential to performance? To answer this question, the workshop offers three different perspectives and case studies from:
1. a preschool in an inclusive setting: alternative assessment tools are presented to illustrate potential development of children with special needs.
2. a primary all day school: the presenter discusses various assessment criteria of drawings with reference to the Austrian curriculum and talent education.
3. a high school for gifted pupils: various methods of formative assessment as well as assessment free zones are offered.
The participants can choose their focus for the main activity, in which they will work on these case studies. The main activity for the participants contains the discussion on diverse possibilities to assess pupils and their accomplishments. The setting provides room and space to debate various assessment methods and their impact on (highly) gifted children.
