How to motivate children to read: an active approach to inquiry and deep comprehension
Paper

Presenter(s): Frum van Egmond

Frum van Egmond is the founder of an innovative learning philosophy, The Noordwijk Method. She founded her first school in 2006 and now there are more than 80 schools in the Netherlands and abroad working with her ideas.
During this workshop, Frum will speak about ways to make reading meaningful for children. Instead of textbook-workbook assignments, you will learn how to turn reading into an adventure where the children need the texts to solve all sorts of questions. A big focus is put on coöperative learning and combining reading with writing texts for themselves. Asking questions is an important strategy when reading. Frum will explain how the Thinking Bubbles of The Noordwijk Method can help with establishing deep learning and understanding.
Also, you will learn how to implement comprehensive listening and watching with the youngest children 4-7 years old.
