Character strengths of gifted and talented students: a hidden treasurePaper
Within the field of positive psychology, which focuses on the research of the factors that contribute to human well-being and flourishing, character strengths represent one of a key concepts. They are defined as positive, morally valued personality traits that reflect the best aspects of individuals. Recognizing, applying, and fostering character strengths can help people realize their potential and achieve meaningful goals, leading to numerous positive outcomes. Research indicates that individuals who frequently use their signature strengths—those most central to their identity—experience greater happiness, higher self-esteem, a stronger sense of competence, more positive emotions, and even higher academic success. This plenary lecture will introduce the VIA Classification of Character Strengths and emphasize the importance of identifying and nurturing the character strengths of gifted and talented students, highlighting the teachers’ role in this process.
