Experience of a Gifted Student about the Struggles of Learning During the Pandemic and Transitioning Back to Normal Learning
Paper

Presenter(s): Rayna Axelson

In this session I will share 3 experiences that I have had as a gifted student. The first relates to learning during the pandemic. Online learning during the pandemic was something many students have never experienced before. The hours in front of the screen really took a toll on many students and have transformed the way we learn. Because of this, the second topic relates to how to overcome the challenges of transitioning from online learning to in person learning. Since our systems of learning have changed so drastically, it is necessary to find strategies to transition effectively between these two systems. Incorporating study strategies learned from online learning and in person learning can cause students to be more prepared for challenging classes. The third relates to balancing schoolwork and extracurriculars. Especially coming from a year of online learning where we had more time to work on extracurriculars, balancing our lives has become even more difficult. Finding time to do sports, clubs, and other important social events is not easy for students in challenging classes, but is possible with the right strategies and hard work. I hope to help other students who are also having difficulties navigating hard classes and the ever changing world.
