Paper

Presenter(s): Apolonija Kovač
Presentation will be in Slovene language.

As a math teacher, I notice that too often we pay attention to PUPILS with learning difficulties than to gifted pupils. At our school, we wanted to change that. History teacher and I thought about how to prepare activities that will be interesting, varied, contained as many subject areas as possible, but at the same time does not burden the pupils after class. So, we started organising Saturday workshops for gifted pupils. Pupils from 6th to 9th grades were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 6th and 7th grade pupils. In this article, I will present three of their workshops: Do a microscope, the past, genius and illusion have something in common, Science in the time of the first civilisations, and the workshop Persia, the cradle of civilisation. There were 8th and 9th grade pupils in the second group. I want to show you how we dealt with the Baroque adventures of G. W. Leibniz and his friends. The activities were very well received by the pupils. We conducted only one workshop per Saturday. We chose autumn and wintertime. In this article, I avoided mentioning the theoretical foundations of working with gifted pupils. I would like to present you concrete, mostly mathematical content and activities that complemented each other nicely with History.
